More than a random spin

Randomness determines which eligible players enter a roster and supplies the independent game-day variance. It does not make every roster equal. Player ability, positional role, formation fit, opponent style, and the full 17-game schedule all influence what happens next.

01 · THE DATA FOUNDATION

A large, versioned football dataset

FFL begins with a broad pool of player and team performance information. Source fields are cleaned, validated, normalized across positions, and converted into game attributes that describe how a player contributes within their actual role.

A quarterback, offensive lineman, receiver, edge rusher, and corner are not judged by one generic number. Their relevant contributions feed different parts of the roster. Every match pins the dataset version and its cryptographic root, so an update cannot rewrite a game that already exists.

PLAYER IMPACT

Ratings have context

Players contribute through role-specific strengths such as passing, rushing, protection, receiving, pressure, run defense, coverage, and playmaking. Stronger cards improve the areas their position is meant to affect; they are not just cosmetic rarity labels.

FORMATION FIT

Your shape changes emphasis

Balanced, spread, power, nickel, and front-based approaches emphasize different parts of a roster. A formation can lean into your strongest unit or expose an imbalance. No formation is designed as an automatic best choice.

THE OPPONENT

Every game asks something different

The shared schedule contains varied opponent profiles. A pass-focused opponent tests different qualities from a physical running side; a coverage-heavy defense presents a different problem from pressure or run resistance. Both users face the same schedule.

Probability is not certainty

Your roster and matchup create the foundation for each game, while independent game-day variance prevents the stronger side from becoming guaranteed. Better construction improves the chance of surviving the schedule; it never predetermines every result.

WHAT RANDOMNESS DOES

Unpredictable, but not arbitrary

Verifiable randomness prevents either user or the operator from selecting favourable draft and season outcomes. Domain-separated streams keep each roster and game execution independent while preserving the same opponent schedule for both sides.

The public interface intentionally explains the factors and fairness model without exposing proprietary calibration values or a recipe for cloning the engine. Exact match inputs and committed versions remain available through the verification experience.
